Dylan Mypisi led our Youth and Young Adult Sabbath with a question that fits every age: Is this my life?
The big idea: Your life is not just yours to run on your own. God made it, God paid for it, and God has something better planned than anything we could build ourselves.
1. “It’s my life” is an old idea.
Dylan started with a 1978 pop song about wanting to be left alone to live however you like. He pointed out that this attitude goes all the way back to Adam and Eve. Every generation feels its pull. (Genesis 3)
2. You were bought at a price.
Paul told the church in Corinth that their bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit and that they are not their own. That is a reason to take care of ourselves and honor God, not a burden. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
3. Following Jesus is a seven-day choice.
Dylan said faith is not something to put on for a few hours on Sabbath and take off the rest of the week. It grows through daily prayer and daily surrender. That matches our “All Things New” theme: in Christ, the old is gone and the new has come. (2 Corinthians 5:17; John 3:30)
4. God’s plan is better, and forgiveness is waiting.
If God has prepared more than we can imagine, why go back to the old way? And when we fall short, God promises to wipe our sins away and remember them no more. (1 Corinthians 2:9; Isaiah 43:25)
5. You are never too young to lead.
Paul told young Timothy not to let anyone look down on him because of his age. Dylan encouraged young people to share their faith and asked older members to keep praying for them. (1 Timothy 4:12; Matthew 28:19-20; 1 Peter 5:8-9)
The story behind the message:
Dylan is 24, and he admitted he feels like an old soul. He loves the 1970s: bell bottoms, disco balls, sturdy cars, and cheap gas. He called music a time capsule of how people felt in each era. The song that inspired his title, “My Life,” is a great example. It says, “Leave me alone, this is my life.” Then he turned to the Bible and showed a different answer: your life is a gift, and God wants to lead you into something better.
