Community Connections

On January 1, 2025, we had the pleasure of hosting our very first Community Connections event, marking a significant milestone for our church and community. With a total of 28 enthusiastic attendees, the event created a vibrant atmosphere filled with hope, collaboration, and a shared vision for a better community.

The success of this event would not have been possible without the dedicated efforts of our Adventist Community Services guru, Ada Alston. Ada’s expertise and passion for community development played a pivotal role in bringing people together. Her tireless work in advocating for community needs has inspired many, and she acted as the perfect catalyst for our inaugural gathering.

Throughout the event, several lively discussions unfolded as participants shared their thoughts and experiences related to our community. The atmosphere was charged with energy as attendees voiced their ideas on improving access to services. Some of the key topics included:

  • Accessibility to Resources: Attendees discussed the barriers many face in accessing essential services, such as healthcare, education, and social support. Ideas were exchanged on how to streamline access and ensure that these resources are available to all community members.
  • Collaboration Among Local Organizations: The importance of collaboration was a recurring theme. Many recognized that by working together, local organizations could create a more significant impact. The discussions led to brainstorming sessions on forming partnerships that would enhance service delivery.
  • Community Engagement: Participants emphasized the need for greater community engagement. Ideas for upcoming events, outreach programs, and workshops were proposed to encourage more individuals to get involved and stay informed about available services.

At the event, we were fortunate to have representatives from Seattle/King County Public Health and Hopelink/Metro Transit on hand, showcasing a huge number of resources available to residents. Their informative table displays provided attendees with insights into essential health services and transportation options, highlighting the support systems in place to assist our community. This collaboration not only enriched the event experience but also underscored the importance of connecting residents with the resources they need to thrive.

The first Community Connections event not only provided a platform for discussion but also fostered connections among attendees. Relationships were built, and attendees left with a renewed sense of purpose and commitment to improving our community.

This event is just the beginning. We are excited to continue these conversations and turn ideas into actionable plans. Future events – scheduled for the first Wednesday of each month at 6pm – will aim to build on the momentum created during this gathering and encourage even more community members to join us. Together, we can make a significant difference in enhancing access to services and creating a more connected community.

As we reflect on our first Community Connections event, we are filled with gratitude for those who attended and contributed to the discussions. The energy and enthusiasm displayed highlights the potential for positive change within our community. We invite everyone to stay tuned for upcoming events and opportunities to engage, collaborate, and make a difference. Together, we can create a thriving environment where everyone has access to needed services.
